We all know that living a sedentary lifestyle is not good for us, but it can be very overwhelming to sort through all of the available information out there and learn how to start living a healthy lifestyle.
Before you start thinking you have to go from couch potato to weightlifter overnight, there are some simple tips you can follow to become more physically active.

As we said, you don’t have to give up playing online bingo games at your desk! All you need to do is start incorporating more activity into your day and create a balance between sitting and moving about.
Obviously, the more movement, the better, but just making a start is a step in the right direction – for example, you could just fit in a short walk in the mornings before work. If you’d like to simplify it further, just try doing things a bit differently.
This can include taking the stairs instead of the lift, walking to work, or even parking further away from the supermarket entrance so you’ll get in a few more steps when doing your weekly shop.
If you’re tight-pressed for time, 10 minutes of skipping every day will be sure to increase your cardiovascular fitness, and it’s something you can do anywhere!
Many of us work (and play) behind a desk, and that’s fine, but it doesn’t mean you can’t adjust your work routine a little bit and spend less time sitting down.
One of the easiest ways to do this is to get (or request, if your employer will cover the cost) a standing desk. By standing for even a few hours a day, you are exercising different muscle groups that would start to weaken or tighten from too much sitting.
While you can get all kinds of fancy standing desks, you could even create your own makeshift ones by using different furniture, for example, while standing in your kitchen at the counter.
Now that you’re standing for a bit of the day and working some of those muscle groups that you wouldn’t have been while sitting, you can introduce some exercises that you can do while at your desk (standing or seated).
These can include engaging your leg and core muscles to get up and out of your chair without using your hands, which is a great strengthening exercise, and one that will serve you well in the years ahead! You can also do a variety of seated stretches and twists to help relieve any stiff muscles or tension built up from sitting in the same position for an extended period.
If you’d like to take things to the next level, there are many “deskercise” routines available online, which could add even more variety to your physical activity, and workday.
Of course, it’s terrific to get more active, and you’ll soon begin to feel the benefits, even if it’s just a little bit each day. However, it’s not going to help in the long run if you stuff your face with fried food and unhealthy snacks after all this heroic activity!
For this reason, it’s essential to have a holistic approach, which means incorporating a variety of healthy lifestyle tips into your daily routine. This can include limiting junk food, replacing sugary drinks with water, learning to cook instead of ordering take-out every night, and reducing the amount of processed food you eat in general.
We can’t say that indulging in a delicious burger every so often is a bad thing, but once you start to eat “clean”, you probably won’t want to visit the greasy spoon as often. Our recommendation is to fill up on fruit, vegetables and other whole foods instead, and save the high sugar and fatty treats for the weekends and special occasions.
