The Deal or No Deal game was undoubtedly (and still is) one of the most popular game show series to make it onto British TV. Hosted by Noel Edmunds, the show ran from 2005 until 2016 and was a favourite in households across the country.
Now, if you play online bingo games or slots online, you’ll know that there are plenty of casino games based on Deal or No Deal. However, there are a couple of facts about the much-loved TV show that you might not be aware of.
In this blog, we’re going to take a look at some interesting Deal or No Deal trivia and how you can still play your favourite game through online bingo and slots at Lucky Pants Bingo.
A total of nine people have won the jackpot on Deal or No Deal.
On the other side of the spectrum, a total of 50 contestants walked away from the show with the lowest amount of money possible at 1p.
Olly Murs made an appearance on the show in 2007 before he was famous. It certainly wasn’t the most successful of visits, however, and the singer walked away with just £10. Believe it or not, this is actually not the worst appearance he had on Deal or No Deal! After his rise to fame, he came back on the show in the 2012 Celebrity Special and managed to walk away with just 50p for his chosen charity.
He isn’t the only celebrity who appeared on the show before hitting the big time, either. Shahid Khan, aka Naughty Boy, also went on the show in 2007, but unlike Murs, he was actually pretty successful and used his £44,000 winnings to set up a studio for himself.
People do choose some truly odd places to propose, and Deal or No Deal was one of those places. In total, four proposals took place in the studio during production. Three of the proposals involved contestants, while the other one was between spectators in the audience.
We never did find out who the mysterious banker was. What we do know is that he was removed from his post once, only for the new banker to not work out, so the original banker returned. Many people have a theory that Glenn Hugill, the show’s producer, was actually the identity behind the banker.
There was a bit of medical drama during one recording of the show. One of the contestants started to feel ill and unexpectedly passed out. Recording had to be stopped, and the audience was asked to stay where they were and remain patient while the paramedics could assess and treat the contestant. Half an hour later, the patient perked up again, and recording could continue. Her husband was shown live footage of the contestant to ensure that she was alright.
Not only has the show seen tens of thousands of people pass through its doors – it’s also seen a couple of animals. In fact, two dogs, one owl, one pigeon and a bumblebee have all been in the studio at one time or another.
Although not the only time that the money changed up a bit during the show, there were a couple of special occasions when things were altered in Deal or No Deal. For their 500th show and the Christmas Specials, £500,000 was made the top prize. In order to make room for it, the £15,000 disappeared.
For the game’s second anniversary, they decided to double each amount and made a new board.
Patrick “Paddy” Roberts was the youngest contestant to win the jackpot on Deal or No Deal, and he walked away with £250,000 at the tender age of 18. The oldest of the lot was Roop Singh, who was 54 when he won the jackpot.
Many thousands of fans were devastated when the show decided to bring its time to an end.
