Ways to Celebrate International Sweatpants Day - January 21st

Sweatpants go by many names – tracksuits, joggers, trackies and sweats. Despite their name(s), they're ideal not only for exercise but also for running errands, relaxing at home, sleeping and basically anything that requires absolute comfort. They're snug, comfy, suited to all weather and pretty much the best thing since sliced bread (except, maybe online bingo).

Each year since 2009, on 21 January, people from all over the world don their best pair of track pants and pay homage to the comfiest piece of clothing ever invented. It's no surprise then, that in all their glory, sweatpants have their very own international day of recognition (as if we needed an invite to lounge around in them all day). And who do we have to thank for this marvel? Why, French designer Emile Camuset, the founder of Le Coq Sportif, of course. It’s 101 years later and we salute you, Monsieur Le Coq, we mean Camuset.

So just how do you plan on celebrating International Sweatpants Day? We’ve got a few ideas.

1. Buy a new pair of sweatpants

You can never have too many pairs of sweatpants. You need a pair in grey, black and your favourite colour. You’ll need some extra fluffy ones for winter and some made of lighter material for summer. You need an extra baggy pair for Saturday nights in and a cute pair for your movie night with the girls. Maybe you want to put Nike and Adidas up against each other, or maybe you’ve already found the perfect pair and need to order another of the exact same pair for backup. Whatever your needs or preferences, 21 January is the perfect day to treat yourself to another pair of sweats.

2. Post a selfie in your favourite sweatpants

Whether your style is a cute tank top, sweatpants and slippers, the classic t-shirt and tracks vibe, or a more chic look with trainers, a coat and a beanie, be sure to snap a shot in your favourite sweatpants to share your love and give others permission to embrace the comfy lifestyle. Don't forget to add the hashtag #internationalsweatpantsday to connect with other sweatpants lovers around the world.

3. Play online games in your comfiest sweatpants

Nothing beats being dressed for utmost comfort, a cup of freshly brewed coffee, and the time to lounge around and enjoy playing some online bingo games, Slingo, or whatever other games tickle your fancy.

Alternatively, you could watch a movie, listen to a chilled winter playlist or podcast, or FaceTime your bestie. Either way, when it comes to relaxing and having fun, you really can't go wrong with your comfiest pair of sweatpants, your laptop and some snacks.

4. Order takeout and have a sweatpants party

Speaking of snacks, whether you're ordering pizza, Chinese, or a juicy burger, there's nothing quite as satisfying as enjoying some delicious food in your comfiest clothes. No loosening your top button or holding back on the fries is required here! Sweatpants give you permission to let go, relax and feel good. So order your favourite takeout and have yourself a little celebration.
